Five Money Saving Tips for Moms

It can cost a fortune to have kids. And the more you have, the more money you need to spend on clothing, shoes, food, doctor’s bills, etc. There are many ways to cut corners when it comes to taking care of your family. Here are five great ideas to help you save some cash!

  • Thrift Stores

While we’d all love to deck our kids out in designer duds, doing so is just plain foolish. For one, kids grow fast. That fabulous dress that little Suzie wore last month, probably looks more like a shirt on her now. And kids can be messy, in case you didn’t know! No reason to spend a lot of money on shoes that will become mud-covered in short order. Thrift stores are an excellent place from which to purchase kids’ clothes. Jeans especially, which usually end up with holes in the knees, are the perfect item to purchase at these types of establishments. For the same amount of money that one pair of new jeans costs, you could have six pairs from the thrift store. Totally worth it!

  • Save on Jammies

Speaking of stained and damaged clothes, they’re perfect repurposed as pajamas. No need to waste money on PJs when you have an entire pile of imperfect clothes sitting in your laundry room. If little Johnny spills some grape juice on his favorite tee shirt, wash it and let him wear it at night to sleep in. You can save a small fortune by doing this. You could always have a pair or two of pajamas on hand for each kid to wear for sleepovers.

  • Buy in Bulk

Warehouse stores are excellent places to buy food, and other items, in bulk. It’s worth the initial membership fee to save big in the long run. School snacks are a great thing to buy at these types of stores, because you can get huge boxes with twenty, thirty, forty, or more individually-wrapped items. Often too, coupon books are available at the entryways, by mail, or online. Win-win!

  • Make Your Own Toiletries

Purchase a large tub of coconut oil, along with a few other common household ingredients, and make lotion, toothpaste, deodorant, and other toiletries for your family. There are countless recipes for these cheap and non-toxic concoctions available online. Not only will you save a ton of cash by doing this, but you’ll also know exactly what your putting in, and on, your family members’ bodies.

  • Cut Your Kids’ Hair

This is easier than you think. Luckily, girls wear their hair long and straight these days with few, if any, layers. You can save a lot of money by attempting to trim their hair yourself. Watch a few You Tube tutorials if you’re unsure of your skills, and then have at it. Purchase clippers to cut boy’s hair. If you make a mistake, it will grow back!

Having kids doesn’t have to cost a fortune if you use a little planning and ingenuity to save a few bucks. These tips can help you be a thrifty mom!

Five Ways to Show Your Kids You Love Them

You may take for granted that your kids know you love them, but, in many cases that may not be true. Kids need constant reassurance, especially from Mom and Dad. The world is hard and kids can face a lot of troubles and difficulties out in society. A strong foundation of love and security at home can go a long way in giving your child the strength to get through each day in a positive way. Try these ideas:

  • Small Gestures

Place sweet notes in lunches, tape them to their bedroom door, or write loving messages on their bathroom mirror. These are all ways to remind your kids that you love them and are thinking about them. Buy them a treat, or watch their favorite show with them. Little things like this go a long way.

  • Expect a Lot From Them

This may seem counterintuitive, but expecting a lot of our kids makes them know that we think very highly of them. Challenge them and expect them to help around the house. Teach them life skills that will set them up for success once their out on their own. Give them a purpose and make them feel like they have a mission in life. They may not see the value in this now, but when they’re older, they’ll thank you for expecting a lot of them and believing their capable of accomplishing a lot!

  • Care About Their Health

Don’t feed your kids junk and let them sit around all day. Nor should you let them stay up until all hours and then sleep until noon. Teach your children self-care and guide them about what kind of food they eat and how much sedentary time they engage in, especially staring at screens. Make them feel like you care about them – mind, body, and spirit.

  • Set Limits

Give your kids boundaries. Check their phone and social media accounts to make sure they’re on the up and up online. Don’t indulge their every wish and desire. Don’t allow them to be disrespectful to you or others. Again, they may see this as mean and oppressive now, but later in life they’ll look back and see how much you cared about their safety, character, and well-being.

  • Tell Them

Tell your kids that you love them when you wake them up each morning. Then again when you drop them off at school. And when you pick them up. Tell them when they walk into the room and again when they leave it. Email them and tell them that you love them. Post it on their Facebook page. Tell them multiple times at night before they go to sleep. Let it be the last thing they hear from you before they close their eyes at the end of each day. The point is, you can never ever tell them enough that you love them. Not only will they know for sure how you feel about them, but this practice will help them to become loving, caring people as well.

Everyone loves their kids, right? Hopefully. But not every parent shows their kids that they love them. Use these little tips to show your children in a big way just how much they mean to you!

Take a shortcut on the road to conception #TTCwithStorkOTC

“This is a sponsored conversation from Mums the Word Network and The Stork OTC. All opinions are my own.”

Most of you know I have 4 Crazy Girls but did you know it wasn’t easy for me to have those girls. I thought getting pregnant would be a breeze but I soon found out that wasn’t in the plans for me. It didn’t come easy and month after month the pregnancy test was negative. Eventually, I had to seek treatment and that was a long drawn out process, I eventually had my babies #triplets.

Couples struggling with infertility often find themselves in a perpetual cycle of grief and loss. Every negative pregnancy test and monthly period is a reminder of the child they do not have and a dream that is going unfulfilled.

Male Infertility via the Mayo Clinic

Up to 15 percent of couples are infertile. This means they aren’t able to conceive a child even though they’ve had frequent, unprotected sexual intercourse for a year or longer. In up to half of these couples, male infertility plays a role.

Male infertility is due to low sperm production, abnormal sperm function or blockages that prevent the delivery of sperm. Illnesses, injuries, chronic health problems, lifestyle choices and other factors can play a role in causing male infertility.

The Stork OTC is a uniquely designed innovative device you use at home during ovulation to assist your chances of becoming pregnant. Our FDA- cleared, over the counter device uses cervical cap insemination. This smart technique enables the sperm to quickly bypass the vagina tract and places the sperm as close as possible to the opening of the cervix, right where it needs to be to swim up through.

I love that the Stork OTC can be used at home, weekly Dr Appointments, counseling and being pricked and prodded is hard enough when going thru infertility. The Stork OTC is breaking that stigma letting you try to conceive at home.

In April you can get $30 in ExtraBucks when you purchase 2 Stork OTC devices at CVS/Pharmacy only through April 29th.

Don’t forget to check out the Twitter Party happening April 25th at 8pm EST. Use hashtags #TTCwithStorkOTC & #becomingadad.

Five Spring Cleaning Tips We All Forget

Spring cleaning is one of the smartest tasks you can undertake each year. In actuality, despite its name, “spring” cleaning should be done at the beginning of each season in order to deep clean your home and purge it of any unnecessary clutter. Here are five areas of our home that we often forget when spring cleaning:

  • Baseboards

Not many people notice their baseboards on a daily basis, but they can get mighty gross. Being adjacent to the floor, baseboards endure a lot of abuse and get covered in filth from feet, pets, and dust. Fill a bucket with warm sudsy water and grab an old toothbrush. Gently scrub each baseboard, wiping the dirty water up as you go along with a cloth so the floors don’t get wet and damaged. You may be surprised what a difference clean baseboards make in regard to the aesthetic beauty of your house!

  • Junk Drawers

Admit it. You have a junk drawer. Or two. Or ten. Or at least one in each bathroom and the kitchen. Junk drawers are actually wonderful places to keep objects that don’t have a “place” in your home. These catch-alls house all sorts of random things like paperclips, pens, coins, batteries, and coupons. But, keep adding “junk’ to these drawers, and you’ll need to start using an additional one at some point. To clean out a junk drawer, dump it out and only put useful things back in it. Throw away dried up pens, expired coupons, old mail, and other useless stuff. It’s okay to have a junk drawer as long as you keep it under control.

  • Clothes

What do clothes have to do with spring cleaning you may ask? Many people add and add to their closets without ever purging them. Next thing you know you have old concert t-shirts from the eighties crowding your space. Instead of picking things out of your closet to donate or throw away, take everything out and lay it on your bed. Only return what you love back to your closet. Make sure you do this to each of your kids’ closets as well. Kids grow and their clothes get rips and stains from every day wear and tear. Purging wardrobes is a great way to know what’s missing or what needs to be replaced.

  • Vents

It’s easy to forget about the vents in your house. Air vents get caked with dust, pet dander, and other allergens and those particles end up in the air we breathe. Replace these at the beginning of each season. And our dryer vent can become a fire hazard if it’s not cleaned regularly. It’s worth paying a professional to come do this properly for you.

  • Dust

This one may seem obvious when it comes to spring cleaning, but many dusty spots are neglected during a regular dusting routine. Check the top of your refrigerator, as well as your cabinets. Dusk your blinds and plantation shutters if you have them. And, underneath furniture and the tops of fan blades are other spots to clean. Removing all that dust will make the air in your house easier to breathe!

Spring cleaning can be cathartic and even fun! There’s no better feeling than having an immaculately clean and thoroughly purged home, even if it only stays that way for a short time!

How to encourage self-confidence when raising daughters.

Raising daughters can come with a whirlwind of emotions, girls are some very interesting creatures. I think at some point in our lives, all girls or women suffer from having a low self-confidence. Whether that be at a very young age because kids were making fun of appearance on the playground, in high school when their boyfriend dumps them for another girl, or even as an adult constantly comparing yourself to models that you see in magazines. No girl should ever feel this way and our jobs as parents is to encourage the strength and confidence in our daughters so they are never upset! Today I am going to be sharing with you a few tips for raising your daughter to have self-confidence and love herself! This is something you can start when they are very young so that they grow up to be strong women!
-Compliment Them: Giving your girls praise and compliments of any kind will help to boost her confidence. You may think they don’t care what their parents think of them, but trust me they do! You giving them that praise and love will really help with their self-confidence and make them feel comfortable in their own skin.

-Set an Example: Girls are constantly looking up to their mother whether you realize it or not so it is highly important to set a positive example for your daughter. Do not put yourself down or trash talk other girls. This makes your daughters think that is okay and they will mimic your behavior. Have confidence in yourself and be a good role model for the little eyes watching you as they grow up.

-Encourage Body Confidence: When it comes to self-confidence you can be your own worse enemy. Make sure that your daughters are not their worst enemy. If you hear them putting themselves down, stop them! Don’t let them beat themselves up and bring down their confidence. Teach them to be proud of themselves and love their body!

-Start Sports/Exercise Early: It is really important to be healthy and get exercise for everybody! This is why I highly recommend starting your kids in sports and exercise at an early age because this will keep them active and healthy. They will want to actually workout and have fun while staying healthy and happy.

-Tell Them to Ignore Mean Words From Others: Unfortunately, Kids can be bullies and there is nothing we can do to stop that. This is why we need to teach our children to ignore what other kids say and don’t let that bother them! Teach your daughter to be strong and make sure she knows that it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of her as long as she is happy.
Confidence is such an amazing trait to have as a woman, and this is why you need to start your daughters on self-confidence at an early age. We need more strong and confident women in this world and your daughter could easily be one of them (:
